I remember when I was a kid, one guy called Rajiv Goswami set himself ablaze to protest against V.P. Singh's implementation of the Mandal Commission recommendations. That was headline in all news papers in 1990 I guess. Only three policemen came to help where all other reporters and media people were busy clicking & scribbling for next day’s newspaper.
22 years later, in Guwahati one girl was molested in public just for ‘fun’, the passer by folks also joined the ‘fun’ and duo from local news channel
keep filming it. The video got viral in net and three of those twenty molesters
were arrested by public. The HD quality video finally helped to nab some rascals. The govt praised itself saying they nabbed few of
them, so was police. The woman commission flew from Delhi did some photo-shots and meetings. But have we ever though how low the media had came down?
Not sure how many eyes it would open as we have common
tendency to say it won’t happen to me, but I seriously want something to
happen those people who think like this.

Around same time Gehana Vashisht did a photo-shoot wearing
our national flag as lower with bikini. The photos appeared in a famous
magazine which agitated many people as obviously sentiments of a few people
were hurt. An irate crowd corners her at Lokhandwala, and starts pelting stones
at her car, cracking the rear windshield. The model herself was lightly injured
because of it.
I thought this is the end of the story and she would have
realised she shouldn’t have done so, but what made me stunt that she later in
her defense said that the photo-shoot was personal use and was taken while she
was out with her friends . What I couldn’t figure out how someone can say like
personally I can do such things. No surprise one more Poonam Pandey in making.
WTF, a soldier die for the tiranga and one model shamelessly use it as
swimshoot and M***F***s like & share those pics in Facebook and other
sites.
The fourth story is of our famous Yuvraj Singh, in some
channel and news papers he was quoted as hero, survivor of death. Yes indeed he
had a bad time, but what heroism here? In India more than a million people
die because of cancer each year, don’t they want to live? Boss, everyone can’t
get themselves treated at Boston Cancer Institute. Yuvraj Singh could afford,
so he did. We made Dhoni the 2nd richest player, Sachin have a Ferrari and we hope the unprivileged soccer and wrestling players to get medals
in Olympics. The same proactive media never show them on TV except time of Olympics which can made its TRPs high.
One guy fights for the ‘general’ people for something that was very bad for our country, one helpless girl gets molested and same time one shameless model comes to media to clarify that she didn’t do anything wrong by making the tiranga her swimsuit, it was for her private use. Yuvraj Singh again become a national hero defeating the death and few more Jawan's bodies arrive their home from border. Few people light candles in memories of their loved one but they never make a news .
We have come long way since 1990, but again it seems
nothing has changed. We never realised that With
great power comes great responsibility.
You pinched it.

We almost forgot about the first story and didnt hear the 3rd one, but both are eye opening.
ReplyDeleteGood compilation.
Sad but true.. Nothing much has changed... For a country with population more than a billion, winning a single medal in olympics is huge achievement... We as people never realize our responsibility / potential ..
