Radha asked Lord Krishna "Why didn't you marry me though you love? Instead you married Rukmini". Lord Krishna smiled and replied “Radhe, Marriage happens between two souls, and we are only one."

It was zillion years ago, and might be Lord Krishna was correct, the “SoulMates” funda worked in those period, people were much simpler and less self-centred, today in 2012 even Krishna would have tough time understanding people.

Out of all relations aka close friends, siblings, couples (they married or not), I haven’t found many examples what I can benchmark for the phrase ‘SoulMates’ except my Dida (my granny) & Dadu. The connection between dadu and dida was indigenous, in their 65 years of marriage they never stayed apart no matter what happened. And after dadu’s death dida didn’t want to be alive anymore and gradually she too died before long.

Rightly said life was much simpler then. Obviously my parents wouldn’t expect that much commitment from me, but the bigger question is would I be able to do righteousness to some one I like? Would I be truthful, altruistic and stand for the person? And if wedded would I do all duties that one oath I would take during wedding?

Love and SoulMates terms are commonly and mistakenly intermingled. I too had the same perspective but then I realised I was grossly wrong. Spent nights with books & phone to find the answer and I realized the funda is so different from what we normally think.

Some people believe in reincarnation, so do I. They say a soulmate is someone with whom you have encountered in many different life times and loved him/her many times. That is why the first time you meet certain people in this lifetime you feel as if you have known them forever before you even knew their name. Has this happened to you ever? The mystical deja vue energy surprised you also?

Why do you think love ensue? Is it mere a chemical reaction? If this is the case then only your mind and heart would be involved, why would your soul be attached to some feeling ? Why some individuals believe in polygamy and still they are despondent? Does they mistake polygamy as love? Does love happen so often? Many people would say yes, but ask them to walk 20 miles for a person and they will give up, forget the other things.

But why does love happens? I don’t have a clean answer now but I can tell there is a very thin line between Friendship, love and lust.

Long ago I had a friend whose ‘close friends’ change faster than the seasons and count of ex-girlfriends grew. When asked he said, he never gets the person of his like. I thought may be he was right, For a girl its tough to find a guy who assume like you, carry your bag when you are shopping and watch KJ family drama with you and don’t dare to laugh if you shed your tears. And for a boy it’s even harder to find his princess who is beautiful, caring, and intelligent, who can cook and clean, bear children and is Sharon stone on bed.  I am not going into much detail but what I felt in few days that’s he was missing some thing vital. (Girls don’t go and guess sizes) he never knew what he wanted from a girl and from life and what he was really up to. His dreams are strangled too.

If we don’t know who we are actually (knowing father’s name is not considers as knowing yourself) and what we want, how can we even sail to find the right person?  People will walk with you but no one will carry you, you have to walk of your own and clearly know where to head for. And I am sure one will find the right kind of person when one knows himself/herself. Love will surely ensue and be with you but it will take tests, some easy and tough. Are you prepared for it? Scholars believed in two kind of love, in one you try to attain all pleasure, you try to enjoy life with “someone special”, with time you become good gf, bf, son, daughter, parents, siblings or friends. You do your duties well and get back love in reply. Is there anything astonishing in that?

Then there is one more kind of love, you can’t put this in any form of any existing associations, sometime they are ahead of friendship and love making, sometime you can feel some people even though they don’t speak any word. A kind of feeling which makes you liberated.  This doesn’t happen to everyone, but when it happens you reach a greater height. There is no material bond in this love, no question asked, no expectations, no physical attraction, this makes you selfless, light and you know you can do everything for the person you love no matter what the person does to you.

Deep inside every human being there is a desire to feel connected physically, emotionally and if time permits spiritually to another person. But the predilection varies from person to person. Some practical and high charged people for whom physical presence is everything consider Imraan Hasmi as their guru for. These kinds of people are highly envied by others as they look ‘cool’. Same time some people prefers to be emotionally connected , through  phone, Facebook, sms , gtalk and skype and what not, they try to be in ‘touch’ but later think it was waste of time and become follower of the person mentioned above.

Surprisingly, a few odd people are left who don’t need any physical or transporting medium to share their feelings. Even without talking they share the vibes, I guess if ‘soulmate’ term exists then they are closer to meaning of that term.

Not much research happened on this topic in India but If you go by numbers based on USA the soulmate ratio is one in ten thousand on higher side. Truly speaking we in our subconscious mind take lots of decisions. The type of words we speak, types of movies we watch and the people we interact with, influence our mind to think while we sleep. We do something because we wanted to do the same thing, in deep in our mind we always had a feeling like so. So no external force can change our mind until we want.  I have seen couples living apart for more than decades but when they reunited it was like they were away for each other only for while, sadly some people live with each other for years and then they walk away.  Going away is never a solution unless you have tried everything to make it work. One practical example is why some people change their jobs so frequently and still not liking it. They never get contentment where ever they go.

Sometime love happens at first sight, in other cases it happens over the years with mutual trust and believes. You start connecting with the person you live with.
If you didn’t have a soulmate in previous life you can always try to make one in this current life and be united with him/her in next, next and many more lives.  We don’t realize but Love happen to everyone, sometime we are shy to express, sometime we just busy with other things. Few people understand it late.

Everything will be okay in the end. If it’s not okay, it’s not the end. The only difference is that the body would change, the passion will be gone, We will reborn and in some life 'the Soul will meet its soul mate'.
